About Tarim City
The country of the fundamentals of religion and the teachings of Islam
The city of Tarim was named after its founder, Tarim bin Hadhramout bin Saba’.It was the capital city of the Kinda kings and it remained the capital of the province until the 10th century. There are different opinions recorded in history regarding its establishment date, some stating that its establishment dates back to 400 years before the birth of Jesus (PBUH), whilst another opinion states that it was established in the time of the ruler Alhimyari Assad Alkamaal. The city of Tarim is also known as Alghanna, due to the many beautiful gardens found therein.

Libraries are considered to be the most important means which one uses in order to obtain knowledge and information, as proof to Tarim’s attachment to knowledge, one finds that there are many libraries within it and from amongst the most renowned of such libraries are: The Ahkaaf library of manuscripts, The Ahkaaf publication library, Gard mosque library, imam Alhaddad mosque ‘Alfath’ library, Alkhaaflibrary, Alkhatieb library, The Al Nur center for research and the Tarim library for studies and publications.
Tarim is proud to be the home of many magnificent castles made out of clay and other local building materials, produced by the locals, who have made use of a mixture of original Hadramuat designs with Asian and Malawi architectures to mention a few of such castles : Castles of Isha, Mineisor, Goba, Dar us Salaam, Tawaahi, Riadh, Sayd Abdu Rahman bin Sheikh Alkhaaf and Hamtoot.
Knowledge, scholars, schools and educational centers play an essential role in this city, They acting as a source of light for people from within as well as out of Yemen, who all come to its long standing educational institutions and centers havig curriculum of Quran memorization together with the teaching of various religious sciences such as: Ribaat Tarim: It is situated in the center of the city, established in 14th Muharram 1305H. (1887) Dar ul Mustapha for Islamic studies: It is situated in area of Aideed in the Rowdah locality, established in the year of 1414H.(1993).
Tarim is not mentioned, except that that mosques and places of knowledge come to mind. This city is famous for its many mosques and from amongst the different opinions, it is mentioned that there are about 360 mosques to be found in Tarim. From amongst the well known mosques are: Alw’al, Ajaame, Ba’alawi, Mihdhaar which is famous for its tall clay minaret, Alhaddaad, Assaggaaf, Jabbaana, Awwabiin, Bajarsh, Nafii’, Alaydrous, Aideed, Mawla Qubla, Aashiq and many others.

There are many different methods one can use in order to arrive to Tarim such as:
– By air:
Via the Seyoun Airport (public) which various airlines make use of and is located about 30 kilometers from Tarim.
– By land:
You can make use of the Alwadee border if you are coming from the direction of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
You can also make use of As Shahan border if you are coming from the direction of Oman. It is located about 577 kilometers from the city of Tarim.
